I am obsessed with Ted Talks, actually obsessed. I love listening to experts, learn new things and even get inspired by the great minds and speakers. I have gathered my 6 favorite Ted Talks that I think would be beneficial for all crafters and makers.
This is actually the Ted Talk that got me excited for this post! I felt like she was describing me, someone who has so many interests and so little time to do them all. I love studying economics, I love crafting and I love beauty and makeup. She coins the term “multipotentialites.”
Guys, I have felt this way for years, probably since I graduated college. He asks “Why do we work?” and in general people think that material rewards of a job are not that important – but for the majority of the people in the world they don’t feel like their work is part of the perfect characteristics, and they do it for pay. I myself work a day job that I’m not thrilled about. I like everyone I work with and I like my job – but it isn’t always stimulating, monotonous at times, and well, it’s not my dream job. But I like working, I also need to eat and buy yarn. Fascinating talk and will make you think why you’re working.
Dan Ariely is a behavioral economist – I am a super nerd – and he talks about decision making (p.s if you like this talk, read his book!) and how people base their decisions. I think this is perfect for makers and crafters because if you’re thinking about starting a business you should start thinking about how people think.
If the title doesn’t explain why I chose it than you don’t get this post, ha! Just kidding of course, but in this talk Gary addresses how sometimes we have self doubt, and how that shouldn’t be what’s stopping us.
Once again, the title is obvious, but the concept is perfect. We are makers. Our country was built on makers.
I suffer from shyness from time to time. Sometimes I don’t know what to say. Sometimes I think too much about what I’m going to say. But when it comes to 1001knits, blogging or anything to do with crafting I am up and at em! After this talk I realized if I am not loud about it, nobody will know.
