Ballet Class !
This past weekend I attended my first Ballet Class in years !
Well…when I was little I used to take ballet as many girls do. As I got older I absolutely loved the beauty and grace of ballet so I talked to my parents and I continued to work and take Pointe class, modern and ballet. I loved it! It was a lot of time but it was great for me, my posture and it was intense !
Ballet is just as much physical as it is mental. I remember I had to focus, be flexible, and look pretty ! It was intense, but it was also the most fun I had when I was younger.
I love dancing and I wanted to get back into it. I also think it’ll be a good compliment to my workouts, so I looked for classes around. I have been thinking about this for a while and I hadn’t found anything and then one day, randomly, I saw someone post about an adult ballet class in the area and, it was actually at the studio I used to dance at and with my old ballet teacher ! Crazy !!
I was nervous…I bought a leotard that fit, my tights and a brand new pair of ballet shoes. As I was getting ready I took it SO seriously. Just like when I was back in the studio from my younger days.
I got to class, and felt like I had never left…except that I was 10 years old, had little flexibility but…I was so much stronger.
As you know I work out frequently and a lot of people don’t know this but you have to be super strong for ballet. I could hold myself up for longer, engaged my core and I could do things really fast which I amount to working out.
Barre work is incredibly hard. You have to stay focused but always make it look like it’s easy. The only problem is that I am 12 years older and that shiz is not easy and I must have developed RBF over the years because I looked miserable! haha
We transitioned to floor work which is where you do walks, jumps and spins. Guys…I have ZERO ups…
But, Im hoping if I continue with this ballet class I will be able to work on my height for jumps, and then I can work on my box jumps, jump squats, etc in the gym.
I think this ballet class is great and Ithink it’s a great cross train to my workouts and most importantly – it’s fun ! I have zero pressure of being the best, or lead in a ballet or show…I can truly enjoy dance that’s incredible ! Do you have any fun things you guys are doing or trying? Is there anything you’re getting back to from your past?
