The Best Surprise Party !
My sister and I have been planning a surprise anniversary party for my parents for about 3 months. I had written about the preparations here and here if you want to follow along. The party was a GREAT success, but every surprise has some hiccups in-between. I thought since this is likely my last post for the year, I would leave you with a funny story about the best surprise party ever !
Two Weeks Before The Party
So, it was right after Thanksgiving, my parents went on vacation to Mexico. This was actually their celebration of their 4oth anniversary as they were going to be celebrating while they were on the resort. I took this week as my time to get stuff together, work on things for the party, gather things from their house and all the things I couldn’t do if they were home.
As a whole, the week was very productive I finished my video (which I will be posting for you all to watch). I made the center pieces – stay tuned for a video on that. and I got the gift bags and boxes all set for the party.
While my parents were soaking up the sun, I was scurrying around their house getting things ready.
The Day Before The Party
The party was on Saturday, December 9th. I took the Friday off from work to go to the hotel and get everything ready so that when my sister got there she didn’t have to do anything or worry.
here’s a list of things that I brought…
- step and repeat x 2
- center pieces
- party favors
- gifts / activities for the kids
- welcome boxes for the guests staying over in the Hotel
- My parents outfits
So I don’t know how I got it all to fit in my tiny car, but it did.
Once I got everything in the hotel I felt a sense of calm. This didn’t last too long…
The Day Of The Party
Snow was in the forecast on the day of my parents party. It wasn’t a lot in our area, but we had out of town guests that would have been affected more. I kept hoping it would clear up but the forecast didn’t say it would.
When I woke up, I went straight to the hotel. I met my sister and the kids there. We also got the room set up.
While I was at the hotel, I saw that the snow was coming down harder. My cousins cancelled, my aunt and uncle cancelled. All of that meant that my grandmother wouldn’t be able to come to the party. No matter though, we had to finish setting the room up. I made the center pieces and I think they turned out great !
When I got home I was still stressed beyond belief. You see, I was the one responsible for getting my parents there. The problem is, my dad got into an accident a few years ago and refuses to drive in the snow. So I had to figure something out.
I got myself ready because there is nothing that I love more than doing my makeup and hair. So this was a great way to calm myself.
I had to get my parents out. I told them that i ordered dinner for them and it was prepaid. They didn’t really understand but I told them I had this fabulous night planned and I think they felt guilty. So my dad cleared the driveway, my parents got dressed, my boyfriend came over and we got in the car.
I texted my sister and said “WE DID IT!”
It was incredible. We parked, walked in and were led upstairs to where the party was.
The elevator doors opened and I saw the poster of my parents. Apparently, they didn’t. I have no idea how they missed it…
We kept walking and walking and I had no idea where the surprise actually would occur. Then out of the corner of my eye I saw both grandma’s and that’s it ! SURPRISE!
Oh…you may be wondering how both grandma’s got there. Well, my mom’s mom lives in town so she made it. My dad’s mom took an uber from Brooklyn New York to CT. Yup, that’s right. My sister ordered her an uber to bring her. It took 4 hours but she made it and was so excited to be there. As you can imagine, I was nervous beyond all hell. With the weather being terrible, not knowing how the roads are…but I guess it was all meant to be.
So, here are some photos of the party…
I also uploaded the two videos that I made for the party. The first is their actual wedding video…I made it kinda modern and cut some of the scenes. The second video is a montage of my parents life together. I hope you love!
