I’ve been doing a lot of cleaning the past couple of days and not surprisingly, I have discovered that I am a yarn hoarder. Please don’t call A&E or TLC, I’ve got it under control.
Since I love keeping things organized and making sure I have everything in place, I decided to make an inventory list of the yarn I have. This way I can make a project using the yarns I do have instead of going to Michael’s or Joann’s and adding to my collection.
There’s plenty of ways that you can organize an inventory lists. You can organize them by color, yarn brand, or by Full skeins to scraps.
I like color coordinating. My closet is color coordinated, my notes for school were color coordinated, so obviously I color coordinated my yarn.
So, here’s how I did it.
I chose the primary colors- Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet- and then added Black, Grey, and White.
After that I sorted my yarns into those categories and placed them in separate bags.
Then, in an excel spread sheet I wrote down the Brand of the yarn, and the color and how many skeins I had of it. Suggestion? If you have a smart phone, download DropBox and put the excel spreadsheet in the app. That way when you’re shopping you’ll know exactly what you have on hand.
Below is a screenshot of what my inventory list looks like just to give you an idea!
Lemme know of any other ways to inventory your yarn!
