How To Knit A Basket Weave Stitch
Hello there guys!
I feel like it has been SO long since Ive posted a real video. Isn’t it crazy how time flies? Anyway today I thought I would post a video for you of a knit stitch that I am using to create some projects for classes I am teaching. Speaking of, if you are in Connecticut I have some classes at Imagine Studios coming up that you should look into! Hope to see you there!
This vidoe is a little different – I used more editing skills and no voiceover, let me know what you think!
Here’s how you do the basket weave stitch. All you need to know is how to knit and purl
You will have to make sure you cast on the right amount of stitches, multiples of 8 plus 3. For example, the smallest number of stitches you can cast on is 11 (8+3=11). In the video I casted on 19. (16+3=19)
Next you Knit the first row. No matter what I do I always knit the first row. It just makes everything so much easier and less frustrating.
So the pattern is
Row 2: Knit4, p3, *K5, P3 – Repeat from * to end.
Row3: P4, K3, *P5, K3 – Repeat from * to end.
now, you do this sequence once more, and then you change like so.
Row 6: P4, K3, *P5, K3 – Repeat from * to end
Row 7: K4, p3, *K5, P3 – Repea from * to end.
So, switching between the first and the second set creates the basket weave effect.
Things You Can Make
Now that you have the pattern down, here are some things you can make that work so well with this pattern!
- squares to make a blanket
- An earwarmer
What else do you forsee using this pattern for?!
