Mini Road Trip Recap !
It’s Monday and Last week was nuts ! I wrapped a mini road trip with my best friend, worked, planned some exciting things 😉 and then had a great Passover dinner with the fam…so I just wanted to recap the week for ya and maybe you can tell me below some new places I should visit and if you’ve ever been on a road trip before !
Mini Road Trip
So a few months back my best friend and I were at dinner and we were talking about how we want to road trip and my best friend loves the show Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives (DDD). So naturally we planned the places, and then planned where we would eat haha.
We wanted to keep costs low and therefore no flying and we also didn’t want it to take too long since we were driving ourselves and didn’t want to take that much time off of work for either of us. So we decided to do Thursday to Monday and we chose to go to NYC, Philly and DC!
Thursday we drove to NYC. The two of us have been to NYC plenty of times but it’s rare that we get to be tourists ! So we got a hotel in Times Square, checked in, walked around. Found a bar, had a glass of wine, went back to the hotel and got ready. Then we went to a delicious restaurant called Gnocco. This place was delicious and made their own pasta. Then we went to a bar that I honestly don’t know the name of…but it was a good time !
The next day we spent outside ! We went to the famous Brooklyn Diner in Times Square and I ate a delicious yogurt bowl with a side of ezekiel bread toast and a poached egg. It was a great breakfast that gave me energy for the day.
From there we went to see where Carrie Bradshaw lived – duh ! And then we walked to Washington Square Park where we saw an awesome free performance from the positive Brothers ! So awesome and they carry a great message.
After that we found out NYC has this happy hour that goes from 12-7pm. NYC…You are the real MVP. We went in to Amity Hall and had some avocado toast, parmesan fries, and a beer! de-lish.
After all of that we drove to Philly. We really wanted to experience the city life and stuff…but…we’re also super lame together and ended up watching TV and eating snacks. I mean, we are tired !
The next day we woke up and went to Honey’s Sit n Eat which was on the list of DDD and it was so cute and soooo good. I got Challah French toast, with two eggs and a side salad. I can still taste it guys. So good.
Then we walked around to Rittenhouse square, Independence Hall, walked to some cute boutiques and then went to the glory of all food events – Reading Terminal Market. All I wanted was a doughnut and then something light for lunch. But…the line was ridiculously long for the doughnuts. The economist in me was like “no…there is no need for this line.” (I studied a whole chapter on lines in Grad school…haha).
Anyway, we got lunch there and it was delicious. We made it back to the car and hit the Road to DC.
We had 2 nights in DC and this is what we came for ! We were going to a Demi Lovato concert that night and it was awesome! But before that we decided to get some food from Nando’s. The garlic bread is the best thing I’ve had. Yuuuum ! Also, our hotel has a free wine hour – it paired quite well hahah.
Then we got to our seats at the concert and DJ Khaled headlined. He’s not a hack ! He’s a pretty dope DJ hahah. ALSO, can we talk about how beautiful Demi Lovato is ! She’s an amazing live performer. After the concert we walked around a bit to see what’s around us and then went to bed.
We woke up and met another friend for brunch at busboys and poets – we walked right by Common ! So cool !
Then we got an uber to the National Mall and saw all the monuments and memorials, adn the white House. We went to Old Ebbots Grill which is the oldest saloon in DC. We sat at the bar, ordered a beer and made a super healthy decision to get creme brulee and Brownie lava cake for lunch. Yup…#healthy but it was necessary.
We walked back to our hotel. We stayed that the Kimpton hotel Monaco in DC and it was amazing and the room and service were great.
We took a power nap, got dressed and went to this other spot from DDD for dinner. We both got the fish sandwich with fries and Mozzarella sticks – delish and definitely understand why it would be on the show !
Our last morning we went to Founding Farmers and got the Beignets. Again…delish haha. I got a Goat cheese and beet hash with eggs, and a coffee. After that we walked around a little and just decided to start the drive back.
The rest of the week was nothing short of crazy too ! I went back to work right away and it was also my Grandma’s 90th birthday ! Amazing – she looks great and even though she is definitely not as lively as i remember here when I was little, she is every single bit as hilarious and sharp.
Then we had Passover dinner in NYC with some family friends that we haven’t seen in years. It was great except for traffic. 5 hours ! Ugh, I was so hangry and just plain angry ! haha but we got there and back safely and spent time with great people – can’t complain !
What a whirlwind of a few days ! Where should we go next?!
