Using My Yarn
I have been a self proclaimed yarn hoarder for years. However, I am no longer into the hoarding lifestyle lol. I actually think being minimalistic is a better way for myself to live. I feel less anxious and I just like it better overall. Which means, I have to start using my yarn. I have done quite a bit of this on the past year and I continue to do this this year. Today’s post will be an update and how I plan to sustain that.
Winding Up Yarn
I spent a full day winding up hanks of my yarn. I am not sure why but if I am looking to make something and I have yarn that needs to be wound, I rarely pick it. So I figured if I was ever going to make something and use the yarn, I had to wind it up. I spent an entire day doing this and so far it’s working quite well !
Multi Colored Patterns
It’s easier to make something with one color…but if theres a way for me to incorporate two colors or more, then I am using even more yarn and that’s great !
I have to make sure that I am not buying yarn just to have or one day use. So, I put myself on a no buy until further notice. This way I make projects with the yarns I have and don’t need to go adding to my collection.
I also get yarns sent to me from time to time. However, I am not worried about this as most of the time I use the yarn right away and showcase it !
Multi Colored Projects
A great way to use up yarn is to use multiple colors in your projects. It doesn’t have to be a big ornate deal. I will have a pattern for you on Wednesday this week showing you a way to make something using two yarns. This will help you use your yarns faster. It also allows you to make really nice effects. You can do stripes, chevron, marled and fleurs de lis.
Gifting yarns is something i’ve done before. If it’s a brand new skein and something that I just don’t need, I will happily gift it or offer it to someone who I know would make something great. Pay it forward instead of holding onto it.
Are you a yarn hoarder? Do you use your yarn immediately?
