I was recently approached by a local store to teach a couple of classes at their studio, so I clearly said yes !
I have been working on the perfect patterns to teach beginners but not look beginner, ya know?
When I started the class, I was the youngest in the room. This didn’t mind me because I knew I could teach knitting and I didn’t think anyone else would mind either. Until one student said “you’re the knitting expert”
Instantly I got anxious and red. I am not one of those people that can hide my emotions and I tried to just make a joke about it and said “who said I was an expert?! That’s false advertising” But it made me really anxious about teaching. Before, I didn’t feel I had to prove myself, but after that I was really on edge and trying to make sure I was perfect.
Truth is, nobody is perfect and nobody is an expert it anything. Even though that comment really got to me, I still walked out of the class knowing I actually taught people something and now they have the foundation to create anything they want.
Have you guys taught a class before? What was your experience like? Also, as a student what types of things are you looking for in an instructor?!
