Today’s post is a little bit different, I realized I haven’t even been keeping up with my own goals this week. Womp. So, to get back on track I thought I would post something that’s meaningful to me – my puppy!
Max is our newest family member. Yes he has an Instagram and no, I don’t keep up with it, but I should. We adopted Max when he was a puppy from Boot n Kit Rescue and I am so happy that we did. He’s such a good boy!
When we got him, we were told he was about 3 months old. Then we took him to the vet and he said that given his teeth, he was closer to 6 months. To us, that made way more sense because he was developing pretty quickly and meeting his markers for a puppy. So, now we have an older puppy than we thought. We are planning to get him neutered but the vet thinks he may have a growth spurt so we’re waiting a few weeks on that.
Max is probably the smartest dog that I’ve met. He learns tricks easily, loves to learn and remembers his tricks without a treat. Since we’ve gotten him, Max has learned 20 commands and we’re still going !
If you read Monday’s post then you know that we got a trainer for Max. This is because when he gets super excited, neither me or my boyfriend know how to calm him down and he mouths and can hurt us. This is playful, but we have so many kids in the family I need to be able to get him to relax and calm down on command.
Because he is adopted and was born during a hurricane, he hates being outside when it’s windy and rainy. We also want to work on this with the trainer but to be honest, he’s already gotten so much better with it.
Now, the trainer came on Tuesday and we have already begun implementing some changes. He’s doing great and again, because he’s so smart it’s easy for him to learn these things and I think we will see changes and be able to calm him down sooner than we thought!
Next Level Training
Now, we have a scheduled meeting with the trainer in 2 weeks. We’re going to see his progress and any other concerns that might pop up. After that I am confident that we will be learning even more stuff, and challenging Max with his agility and his mental training.
Overall, Max is the best puppy and our new best friend. His sister Stella is finally warmed up to him and they are best friends together. It makes me happy to know that they are home together and have each other when my boyfriend and I are at work.
