Project F.U.N – Dance
If you’ve been around for a while than you know that last month I introduced Project F.U.N. If you haven’t you can learn more here. Today is a recap of a dance class I took a few weeks ago and more things I want to try!
Dance
As many young girls I took dance class and specifically ballet for many, many years. I loved it. I wasn’t that good, but I still loved it. I thought that the ballerinas were always so beautiful and poised. And then there was me – a total klutz and I didn’t know my right from left. (side note, I really didn’t know my right from left until like, recently. on my drivers test I literally wrote an “L” on my left hand).
Even though I wasn’t poised, I didn’t have the best splits, and I wasn’t that great at spinning. I loved ballet. I danced until I was about 15 and then put it on the back burner because I had a lot of other activities.
I still loved dance and I love watching every dancing show, instagrams and enjoy blasting my music and dancing around my entire house. But I think everyone does that, right?
Anyway, a few months ago I started following this girl Jade Chynoweth who is not only gorgeous and fabulous but she is an amazing dancer. Check out her instagram ! I had never taken a hip hop class and whenever I went out to bars, clubs or in college I would just dance to the music, usually opting to make a fool of myself to get others laughing rather than actually trying to dance well.
So I have been watching a bunch of youtube videos, maddie ziegler, jade chynoweth and just on my Instagram. And one night my boyfriend was like “why don’t you take a dance class?” and I though – hmmm…why don’t I?
Before Class
I did a quick google search for adult hip hop classes and found this studio not too far from me. It’s a local dance school for kids in the neighborhoods and teaches kids during the school year and summer and they also offer adult drop in classes and almost every night. I took this intro to hip hop class because I am the definition of a beginner. Also, it was $5 so that was awesome !
I have this awful habit of getting places early because I never want to waste someones time. So, I got there early. There was no parking, so I parked on the side street which was a neighborhood. I walked over and paid my $5. I went inside and waited for the teacher.
It was actually a really good turnout ! The amount of people in the studio was awesome, plus the diversity and variety of ages was awesome to see!
The Dance Class
The dance instructor walked, in, put on some music and we were ready to go.
Holy Crap! You guys I thought I was going to die. And I workout, run, and lift weights regularly and I found myself gasping for air and it was just the workout!
The rest of the class we rehearsed and learned a routine for the song. It was pretty awesome and brought me back to my dancing days! The instructor mentioned that he doesn’t want us to just do the moves but to dance and feel the music as well. I loved that so much and totally took it to heart!
Final Thoughts
While I don’t think I’m a Maddie or Jade, I do think I learned a bit in the class. I will hopefully continue to learn more dance moves and continue to practice ! I can’t wait to go out and just feel the music! Have you ever taken an adult dance class!?
